Established in February, 1968, China Aerodynamics Research and Development Center (CARDC) was first authorized by Chairman Mao and planned and designed by Qian Xuesen and Guo Yonghuai, as required by the development of China's aerodynamic industry and national economy.

After 4 decades of development, CARDC has become China's only state-level aerodynamic test and research center that was equipped with facilities of full range of sizes and speeds, the three research methods of wind tunnel test, numerical computation and model flight test, and a broad research field of aerodynamic force, aerodynamic heat and aerodynamic physics. It has successfully completed a large number of test, research and computation tasks on aerospace vehicles, automobiles, high speed trains and wind engineering and achieved over a thousand Science and Technology Progress Awards at national and ministerial level.
